Personally, I've found neck exercises to do much more harm than good. I used to do neck exercises a lot, and I also used to have neck pain a lot. I went to
a doctor once and he x-rayed my neck and showed me how I had degenerative disks in my cervical spine and told me that I would always have neck pain and it
would most likely get worse . That was about ten years ago. After that I stopped doing neck exercises - and I stopped having neck pain! Doctors are so full of
crap. On the other hand, tump line never bothered my neck. I think it's a natural neck movement whereas straining while twisting or to the side and back
are not. I used to carry my heavy backpack, sometimes loaded up with my inflatable kayak and paddling supplies, over the hills and through the woods,
alternating between shoulder straps and a tump line that I affixed to the frame. I posted some photos of me with my tump line a while back. Old timers used to
carry very heavy loads via tumpline.

Jim this would be a great piece of equipment to practice osoto gari on or maybe help my running strength on.

TGM,
I still haven't had a chance to experiment with any tumpline pulls inside the barn/gym, but soon. Unless they are treating an acute injury or something you are right docs are not the way I go. Chuck, If I knew what osoto gari was I would comment, but I think the Crawler would definitely help with any running, sprinting or endurance events. Jim |

Jim,its an outside leg sweep or major outer reap where you reap the outside of your competitors leg while turning his upper body like a big ol steering wheel
from a basic grip. But it could definately help with my running strength/endurance while on an off day.

Yvette,
The only thing about resting heart rate is mine is usually 48-54. How low do you want me to get Seriously if someone with a over 60 RHR makes a Crawler & uses it to dramatically lower their HR that would be very cool! Jim |

Hope you don't mind, Jim, I just posted a link to this page on T-nation; the subject of Prowlers came up in a cardio discussion, and I think you did such
a great job with this, wanted other, less-rich trainees to have a look at it.
I think I can edit my post there, if you like I'll refer to you as 'the inventor, who (almost) Died Tragically Rescuing His Family From The Remains Of A Destroyed Sinking Battleship...' |

Reminds me of old Jackie Chan and some other old Kung Fu flicks, where they have a huge stone with some kind of stretchy strands attached and wrapped around
the arms, legs and neck.

BTW have you tried yours on cement? I have thought a tire design would be better for cement, but I'm not sure. I think at least it would be a LOT quieter.
I couln't post this link on youtube. It apparently filters them.
Nice wall. I wish I had room for one....
